In the late 1970’s Joe served in the armed forces overseas near Frankfort, Germany. He followed his Horticultural interests and began working at a nursery nearby in Dieberg, Germany.

After returning home Joe invested in his overseas apprenticeship by attending Joliet Junior College. There he added formal education in horticulture. These efforts and accomplishments were rewarded when he opened the Hiemenz Nursery.

When farmer’s markets began sprouting up Joe realized this was a new opportunity for him and the nursery. Now he can be found most days inviting a new audience to his world of gardening. Need something for your garden or have a question about our offerings? It’s simple as dialing Joe at  708.417.0397.

  1. Good morning.
This is Shelby. I am going to be the new market manager of the St. John farmers market this 2019 season. I am going through all the current vendors and asking for a new application with current merchandise information and updates. Since you are a returning vendor, you can just mail in your check or money order payable and address to town of St. John. (in the memo 2019 Farmer’s market). The application can be located on the town‘s website. http://www.stjohnin.com. To the right drop-down bar – residence, resources, forms, farmers market application. Three pages. Fill out application. Save. Attach to email on page 2. Send.
    * please note the price has decreased from last season. The market is 26 weeks beginning on Sunday, May 5 through Sunday, October 27. Hope to see you soon, TIA~ shelby👩‍🌾
